About this car
This is chassis B-0226, one of only two works-built fibreglass, independent-rear-suspension Iso Grifo A3/C competition cars from 1965. Both were factory development machines built for the Iso Grifo Prototipi team rather than for customers, and they swapped the earlier aluminium bodywork and live rear axle for a lighter wide body and a double-wishbone rear end.
B-0226 is cited as having raced at the 1965 Nürburgring 1000 km, the Reims 12 Hours and Zeltweg, where Bob Bondurant finished seventh. It stayed with Salvatore Diomante, a figure from the Bizzarrini story, for around 40 years. He eventually restored it mechanically, repairing the Zeltweg damage while keeping the battle-worn bodywork. The page says it is the only A3/C to retain its original paint.
Power now comes from a 5.4-litre Chevrolet V8 built by Mathwall Engineering, quoted at 400 bhp. The car was shown at the 2016 Chantilly Concours of Elegance, was bought by its current owner in 2019 and was lightly prepared by the Jordan Racing Team. It sits just inside the pre-1966 cut-off for historic racing. The price is on application.
