About this car

This is a recreation of André Dubonnet's 1924 H6C 'Tulipwood', the wooden-bodied Hispano-Suiza made for the French flying ace. It was built from 1980s onwards by a devoted Hispano-Suiza collector who could not buy the original.

The car uses a correct period chassis, an 8-litre C-spec engine and the original gearbox, all restored. The wooden coachwork is hand-built from original factory drawings and period photographs, and held together with thousands of individually set brass rivets. The six-year build is recorded in Polaroids and faxed documents, which come with the car.

Since completion in the early 1990s, chassis 1162 has been used for historic rallies and daily driving in Monaco. It has never been offered for sale before. The price is on application.
