About this car
The Heron GT40 MK4 is a New Zealand-built sports racing replica of the Ford GT40 Mk IV that won Le Mans in 1967. It was designed by Ross Baker and built with Bob Gee and Chris Cooke, using a steel monocoque chassis, fibreglass body panels and fabricated steel coil-sprung suspension. The team also designed their own transaxle, with a cast aluminium housing, rather than buy one in.
The build stalled when racing rules cut engine capacity to 2000cc, and the car was not completed until 1988, when it raced at Whenuapai. It later passed through a New Zealand collection, the United States and Belgium before reaching its current owner, who had it prepared in Latvia for European racing. The brakes were upgraded, new coil-overs were fitted and the engine was uprated. A more modern transaxle replaced the original in the process.
It has raced at Spa and the Nürburgring, and its most recent event listed was Le Mans in September 2018. The page gives 1,000 miles and a 5,400cc petrol engine with a manual gearbox. The car is finished in red with black trim and is right-hand drive. The price is on application.
