Franklin 11-B Tandem Sport

Franklin built air-cooled engines when almost nobody else did, and the 11-B Tandem Sport is among the rarest of its cars. The page says only 17 Tandem Sport bodies were made as a special model for Franklin's 25th anniversary, and that five survive. This car is described as number 135 of roughly 140 known 11-Bs, and as one of only three older 11-B survivors. It was probably built in September 1926 as a 1927 model-year car.

It has a 3.3-litre air-cooled six, an aluminium-panelled body on an ash frame, original wooden artillery wheels and fully elliptical suspension. Front brakes were not fitted until 1928, so there are none here. Period details include a heater, a tube radio of about 1935 and silver-plated door handles and interior lights. The first owner was the American newspaper cartoonist Fontaine Fox.

The car has been in the same family for a long time and has won several concours prizes, most recently at Schloss Schwetzingen. The dealer describes the interior as original and the mechanicals as in very good order. It is German-registered (OFL27H), and the page gives no mileage. The listing shows the price as accepted.
