This Cooper T62 is chassis CTA/BM/2, a single-seater with a strong racing record in the hands of Bruce McLaren. It won five races, among them the 1962 Australian Grand Prix, which makes it an important car in the Tasman Series story.
It was ordered in chassis form by Tommy Atkins. The plan was to fit a customer BRM P56 1.5-litre V8 so that McLaren could enter non-championship Formula 1 races that Cooper itself did not want to contest. The BRM was delayed, so a 2.7-litre Coventry Climax FPF went in instead for the 1962/63 Tasman Series. The car raced in both 2.5 and 2.7-litre forms.
It now has a 2.5-litre Coventry Climax FPF built by Crosthwaite & Gardiner, as it ran in period, along with a fresh Colotti T32 gearbox. It has completed only a test day since restoration. It is presented as a front-running entry for HGPCA racing.
