The Competition variant brings firmer suspension calibration and a higher-revving character over the standard M5, while xDrive ensures the 616 bhp and 750 ft-lb from the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 are deployed with real conviction in all conditions.

The specification is well-chosen. Tanzanite Blue Metallic is one of the more distinctive shades in the M palette — far less common than the default dark or white finishes. The 20-inch M Light Double Spoke 706 alloys in black complement it well, and M Compound brakes in black high-gloss add visual weight to the arches. Inside, full Merino leather in black covers the M Multifunctional Seats with memory function for driver and front passenger, while the Comfort Plus Package adds heated seats and a heated steering wheel.
