Listed today at Vintage & Prestige, Northampton. Last checked today.
This is a replica of the 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen, the three-wheeler widely regarded as the first true automobile. The dealer says it was built with reference to the original plans, so it follows the layout of the car Karl Benz patented that year.
The original design is a steel-tube and wood-panelled chassis with a rear-mounted 954 cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine, trembler coil ignition and a large horizontal flywheel. Drive goes through a simple belt system to chain drive on both sides, with steering by a toothed rack acting on the single front wheel. Output on the original was well under one horsepower.
The dealer describes the car as in as-new condition, having covered only bedding-in miles, and easy to drive. The registration and chassis number are listed as to be advised, and no mileage is given.
