Bentley R Type Special

This is a one-off special built on a 1953 Bentley R Type, not a standard factory car. The owner spent roughly five years on the project, with more than 210,000 euros spent on top of the cost of the donor car. The aluminium body is rolled and loosely follows a Hooper design seen on a Belgian Derby Bentley. Oversized wire wheels were made specially to keep the proportions right.

The car is finished in Old English White over tan leather. The seats come from a modern Jaguar, the carpets and mohair hood are black, and the dash is new and made of wood. The hood folds away completely into a recess behind the front seats. EZ power steering has been fitted. A wind deflector and a hood bag are included.

The dealer says every mechanical component was removed, assessed and rebuilt as needed. The engine was rebuilt in the UK, where the wheels were also made. A thick file of bills documents the work, and the car has covered under 2,000 miles since the build. It is registered in Belgium with EEC taxes paid and can be viewed there, near Kortrijk or Antwerp.
