Bentley R Type Continental H.J. Mulliner

Chassis BC16B is an early, lightweight-specification R Type Continental, one of the roughly 200 built with H.J. Mulliner coachwork. It was completed in August 1953 and delivered new to Northern Ireland through Agnew & Graham of Belfast. It is a right-hand-drive car with a manual gearbox and rear wheel spats, still in its original Pacific Green with beige leather piped in green.

The ownership story is unusually continuous. The first owner kept the car until 1975, and one of the two co-owners who bought it then has had it since 1992, which makes about fifty years with one custodian. The front seat was changed to a James Young type during the first owner's time, while the rear seats remain the original lightweight pattern.

The car was restored in the early 1990s, including a bare-metal repaint and chrome work by David Royle & Co of Darlington. Bentley specialist Padgett Engineering has overhauled the steering and suspension. The file includes chassis cards, photographs and invoices, the original 1953 logbook, the handbook and copies of the Mulliner line drawings. Frank Dale's workshop has reviewed and prepared it, and the car is now under offer. No price or mileage is given.
